Cute Summer Lookbook : Totoro Inspired Outfit Ideas

Totoro inspired outfits for the summer! Hello there fluffies, it is the weekend again and I swear my weeks are getting shorter and shorter. Sometimes, I wish that there were more hours in a day and more minutes in an hour. Now that I am done with my little to nothing rant about minutes and hours, I am quite thrilled about my outfits this week, hence the uncanny screaming at the beginning of my post. With that said, I would like to first cook up a really lame but good excuse for the excellent lighting change in all four outfits you see below. I swear it is the truth. It was the rain. I have to say, the rain came just at the right time for my Totoro themed outfit video this week, but rain isn't necessarily very kind with natural light. Now that the rain excuse is out of the way, let us hop into my cute finds this week!

Mei Kusakabe
Mei Kusakabe has got to be the cutest little sprite looking girl I have ever seen in my entire life. I kid you not my friends. She is bubbly, inquisitive and kawaii. I was especially inspired by her overall dress and red accents to her outfit. I threw on a white puffy sleeve blouse Mei wore in the anime but changed up the red overall dress to a denim one instead to add my own style to the outfit. To play up the red color in her outfit, I put on a pair of red flats which in all honesty made the entire outfit pop. I finished the look with a pair of ribbon decorated socks and a hat for that playful inquisitive vibe Mei exudes in the anime.

Soot Sprite
Furry little fuzz balls rolling off walls and into tiny little holes. I would love to have a pet like that. Soot sprites won my vote for this outfit inspiration. Because they were made of black and more black with white googly eyes, I picked this outfit to represent just that. I chose a really cute checkered  2 way dress and I love the material on this one. The top half of this dress is made from soft cotton while the dress itself has a gauzy feel. Great for the summer, because it is light and airy and trust me, if you live where I am from, light and airy outfits are always a plus. To bring out more black in this outfit, I paired it up with a pair of black polka dotted socks and black vintage preppy flats. What do you think? Soot sprite much? Now all I need is black soot on my face and we are all set. Oh and fuzz, we can't do soot sprite without the fuzz.

Totoro
My Neighbor Totoro. This was a classic anime and one of my favorites from my childhood. I have watched and re-watched Totoro over and over again and every single time I watch it, this anime gives me the same magical feeling from when I first discovered Totoro. Totoro is technically grey in color, so I wore lots of grey in this outfit. I wore a cute cut off flounce cotton sweater, a pair of DIY cut offs and added a white scarf with little leafs to play up Totoro's image. To finish off the cozy in this look, I threw on a DIY beanie, added some socks to my wedges and voila!

Totoro's Tree house
I would swap my condo for Totoro's tree house in a heartbeat. Inspired by Mori Girl fashion and Totoro's all famous tree house, I put on this really pretty and super soft chiffon mint green dress. It is so comfortable, I could eat a ton and fall asleep in it right after. The drawstring below the chest gives this dress such a nice flow. I made a beaded necklace with brown suede to represent the tree bark. I am not sure if that made any sense at all, but then again, I probably never do. HAH! To complete the look, I wore some socks as usual and the same wedges as the Totoro outfit above. I also put on a pair of sheer off white stockings to pull this off better. The hat? Well, we know how I am with hats. Obsession, some say.
